Oriental Rug Wall Hanging
Your boyfriend just surprised you with a puppy. Fantastic, except there is no way in the world that you can allow the unpotty-trained beast anywhere near your Oriental rug, but don't worry. You don't have to hide away your family heirloom until the dog is trained. Instead, consider turning your rug into a stunning piece of wall art. It may take a professional, but it will add elegance to any room (not to mention it will stay paw print free.)

There are certain Oriental rugs that simply cannot be hung. Styles like the Bijar are incredibly heavy and would undoubtedly tear under their own weight if hung on a wall. Certain types, however, were especially made for wall hangings. Check the back of your rug where the pile (cut ends of the knots) are found. On this face, many Oriental rugs have loops or other devices such as sleeves woven in specifically to aid in hanging. If you're unsure, take your rug to any Oriental rug retailer to have a professional look at it. |
While you're at a professional retailer, get tips on how to hang your Oriental rug. The simplest way is to have a sleeve sewn in (if your rug doesn't already have one) so a bar can be run through it. This form of hanging will distribute the weight evenly across the entire rug and greatly help prevent tearing. Also when hanging, be sure to mount the rug high enough so that it doesn't touch the floor. Most Oriental rugs have fringes, and if they touch the floor, you may run the risk of fraying due to someone stepping on or the vacuum catching the fringes.
